The Song Ensemble Mareld now goes under a new name: Vocal Ensemble Espiro. Espiro is a mixed choir that was started in the 1980's. The choir got its' present form in 1995 and has 24 members aged between twenty-five and forty-nine, everyone with a solid choir background. The choir has a broad repertoire ranging from classical chamber music to pop rock and jazz, from church music to profane and folk music from three continents.

From the curriculum; 
  • Mozart's Requiem together with soloists and musicians from the Gothenburg Opera
  • Cuban choir music, Argentinean Tango mixed with Swedish folk music Tango orchestra Mango Tango
  • Cultural exchange program with the South African Choir Voices of Cape Town.
  • Danish national romantic music, performed in a joint concert with the Danish choir Lonevox.
  • Jazz club performance with comedienne Åsa Gustavsson lead vocal, and a trio consisting of David Bäck piano, Fredrik Kjellgren bass and Erik Bodin drums.
  • Salsa party, Espiro Goes Latino, typ - exploring different setting and moods for choir performance.
  • Ice music and perception of Snow, including a commissioned piece of modern music composed by Tormod Tvete Vik

Conductor and leader of the choir is Ida Rosén, working at the Gothenburg opera.

Above: 05-04-24 Espiro performs music written during the renaissance and the baroque, together with similar style music from the 20-th century. The composers Palestrina, Tallis, Scarlatti and Purcell represent the early music, Vaughan Williams and Lauridsen.
